Privacy policy
Last updated: 15 April 2026.
Powerbill.co.nz is a free New Zealand power bill calculator. This page explains, in plain English, what data the site handles and what it does with it. It is written to comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and Google's AdSense publisher requirements.
The short version
- The calculator itself runs entirely in your browser. Your appliance selections, slider positions and region choice never leave your device.
- We do not ask you to sign up, log in, or give us an email address.
- We use Umami, a privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics tool, to count page visits. It does not track individuals or use cookies.
- We serve display ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. More on this below.
- We do not sell, rent or share any information about you.
What the calculator stores
If you press Save as baseline to use the Compare feature, a single entry is stored in your browser's localStorage under the key powerbill.snapshotA. It contains only the same URL-encoded state as a shareable link. It is never transmitted to our servers and clearing your browser data removes it.
We do not set any first-party cookies.
Analytics (Umami)
We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand which pages are popular and where visitors come from. Umami does not use cookies, does not track individuals across sites, and does not create advertising profiles. The data it collects is aggregate: page URLs, referring sites, approximate country, browser and screen size.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
Powerbill.co.nz carries display advertising through Google AdSense. Google is a third-party vendor and uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads on this site. Specifically:
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on our site.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
Google's full privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy. Its advertising-specific practices are documented at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
What we never do
- We do not capture email addresses.
- We do not run a newsletter.
- We do not sell or share your data.
- We do not fingerprint your browser or track you across sites ourselves.
- We do not have a login or account system.
Your rights under the NZ Privacy Act 2020

If you believe we hold information about you and want to ask about it, email [email protected]. You can also raise a concern with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
